We are made for rhythms of contrast. All the colorful elements of life swirled together in our daily movements, coming and going like the steady tide.
A little faster and then slow.
Some hunger and then full.
A big rainstorm and then an open blue sky of piercing sun.
Work, then rest.
Laughter, then tears.
The balance in the contrast gives energy to propel us into the next day. An energy to feed the very work our souls crave. It’s a pattern we were created for. It’s a gift.
All people together, then alone.
Loud, then quiet.
Cold, then warm.
Steadiness doesn’t always feel good. There are days it’s like a cage of monotony. And there are days the heavy far outweighs the light in a darkness that was never meant to be. But even in the middle of that dark brokenness God brings new mercies in the morning.
Light, then darkness.
Joy, then mourning.
Death, then new life.
We all crave a particular palette of colors to make up our daily lives. But the beautiful drama of life is best played out in the contrast, including elements we didn’t think we wanted. And when the color is a dark streak of toxic brokenness, even then there is a redemptive light headed our way. We don’t always know when it’s going to show up, or in what form, but we know a good God is coming to take care of it all.
